Minor Bantam AA Team Wins Break the Ice Tournament
The Ajax Knights Minor Bantam AA team got their season off to a great start by winning the Championship at the 2nd Annual AMHA Break The Ice Tournament. Ajax opened the round robin play with a 3-2 win over the Scarborough Young Bruins thanks to a late game-winning goal from Brad MacChesney. The next morning the Knights would fall to a strong Streetsville Tigers club 4-1, however they would bounce back in the final round robin game with a 5-2 win over the Greater Toronto Capitals.
A commanding 5-0 win over the Brampton 45’s in the quarterfinals set up a re-match with the Streetsville Tigers in the semi-finals. Lead by an outstanding performance in net by Jason Clements, the Knights only needed a lone goal in the 2nd period from Eric Edwards, and then Beckham Schwartz would add an empty netter with 10 seconds left for a 2-0 win to move on to the Championship game vs. the Markham Waxers. Still riding the momentum from the night before, the Knights came out flying in the Championship game the next afternoon. Jacob Mouawad was terrific in net, turning away every shot that came his way. Christian Lamanna lead the way with 2 goals, while James Sinclair and Edwards added one each to give the Knights a 4-0 win, making them the AMHA Break The Ice Champions. James Sinclair was named the tournament MVP after tallying 5 goals and 3 assists for a total of 8 points in 6 games. Team members are Nolan Klinkhammer, Eric Edwards, James Sinclair, Andrew Douglas, Austin York, Jacob Longbottom, Declan McMichael, Beckham Schwartz, Brad MacChesney, Quinton Joseph, Jake Hutchison, Curtis McNabb, Matthew Fox, Colin Muldoon, Christian Lamanna, Jason Clemenets, and Jacob Mouawad. The team is coached by Mike Battah, Kyle Neadles, Brock Robinson, Mitch Fowler, and Katie Lamkie.
Congratulations to the team, coaching staff and parents on a great start to the season.
