Ajax Minor Bantam Select Wins Back to Back Championships
Congratulations to the Minor Bantam Select team on their tournament win this weekend. After winning the AMHA Christmas Tournament,
the Ajax Knights headed to Nottawasaga and captured the Championship of the
Bradford Bulldogs Gold and Blue Classic.
The Ajax Knights started the tournament
strong by defeating the Lorne Park Ojibwa by a score of 5-0. In their second game, the Knights had a minor
setback losing a close one to the Whitby Wildcats 4-3. On the Saturday, the Knights bounced back
beating the Meadowvale Hawks 4-3 and headed to the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals the Ajax Knights took on the Fort Henry Wings in a nail biter. Heading into the 3rd, the Fort Henry Wings were up 1-0 and with 1:45 left in the 3rd, the Knights had to kill two minor penalties in a 5-3. With 1.5 seconds left in the 3rd, defenceman Nate Hopper took a slapshot from the top of the circle and Neil Polley tipped it in to tie the game and send it to overtime. Midway through the second overtime, Keegan Dillon ended it after putting away a pass from Jayden Chapell. The Knights headed to the final to take on the Whitby Wildcats once again. The Knights came out strong quickly potting two goals. While Whitby tried to make a comeback, the Knights remained determined and with a late 3rd period goal ended up winning 4-2 and the tournament Championship. Congratulations to all the boys, coaching staff and parents.
