Peewee AA Win Three Rivers Cup
Submitted By Andy Juhasz on Thursday, December 5, 2013
The Ajax Knights Peewee AA team went undefeated during the 3 Rivers Cup Tournament at Airport Ice Arena in Pittsburgh, PA during this past American Thanksgiving weekend to win the Cup.

They played their first game on Friday night vs the Steel City Renegades and scored 3 unanswered goals in the 1st period and two more goals in the 2nd period, winning the game easily with a 5-0 victory.

Their second game was a tough, physical affair and both teams battled hard throughout the game. The Ajax Knights had a 2-1 lead after the first period with one of those goals being scored on a penalty shot but the Mississauga Warriors tied the game in the second period. Despite Ajax having multiple power play opportunities as a result of Mississauga’s frequent visits to the penalty box, the game ended in a 2-2 tie, setting the stage for what would be an exciting match-up in the finals.

Saturday night was the Knights’ third game of the tournament and second game of the day as they beat the Lapeer Storm easily with a 6-0 Victory. The Knights had a balanced attack from all their lines as they scored 5 goals in the 1st period and one in the 2nd period to record another win and their 2nd shutout of the tournament.

The Ajax Knights were ranked 1st going into the finals to face the 2nd ranked Mississauga Warriors. Both teams earned their spot in the finals by playing dominant hockey and the two rivals put everything they had into this final match. The Knights played a disciplined game and displayed their great depth, strong skating and puck-moving ability throughout the game. The Knights scored quickly in the first period to take the lead but the Warriors tied it up before the period ended. The Knights scored to take the lead again in the second period but less than a minute later the Warriors tied the game once again. The persistence and skill of the Knights prevailed over the physical play of the Warriors as the game went on. The Ajax Knights scored two more goals in the third period and were put to the test late in the game but they displayed their solid defensive abilities and held off their opponents’ offensive attack to seal the victory and defeat Mississauga 4-2 to claim the title of tournament champions.
