The Peewee Rostered Select Ajax Knights went undefeated over the weekend to win the Wally Beavis Memorial Tournament in Peterborough.
The team hit the ice on Friday morning at the Peterborough Memorial Centre, home of the OHL Peterborough Petes to take on the Minor Petes. The boys got off to a slow start but fought hard in the second and third periods to defeat the home town team 6-4. Jayden Chapell scored a hat trick to lead the team and goalie Carson Fetter was named player of the game.
After two hours of rest the Peewee Selects were right back on the ice at Kinsmen Arena to take on the Meadowvale Hawks. It was a hard fought game against the Hawks, but the Knights held their ground, scored late in the game to win 2-1. Goalie Aidan Stevens won player of the game making some big stops near the end of the game.
Game 3 went early Saturday morning as the Knights took to the ice against the Leaside Flames. The Knights jumped out to a quick three goal lead before the Flames started charging back. The Knights held tough and went on to win 5-4. Neil Polley with a couple of goals won player of the game.
With a first place finish in their division the Knights headed to the semi-finals to take on the Peterborough Petes once again. It was a back and forth game with end to end action but the Knights once again held off the hard charging Petes winning 4-2 and headed to the championship. Jayden Chapell took home player of the game honours.
The Knights once again met Meadowvale in the final and got off to a quick start out shooting the Hawks and potting two goals. The Knights exploded in the second and third periods scoring 3 unanswered goals and going on to win the championship game by a score of 6-1.
