The Minor Midget AE hockey team was victorious in the 28th annual Stoney Creek Ace Bailey Memorial Hockey Tournament.
The Knights started slow losing their first game 1-0 to the Brampton 45’s (formerly the Battalion). Ajax outplayed Brampton but ran into a hot goalie, peppering him with a lot of shots. The Knights were flat in their second game losing 2-0 to the Hamilton Spitfires.
The Knights were down but not out. The tournament format allowed a small glimmer of hope. The Knights could not lose another game. They started their comeback by defeating Georgina Blaze 2-0. Matthew Ferreira stoned the Blaze on many chances and continued his solid performance from the day before. Matthew was the solo goaltender in the tournament as his goalie partner was attending a family function. Scoring for Ajax was John Mallare assisted by Simon Feig and Josh Hall and Matthew Carpe assisted by Jaimin Panesar. The win over Georgina propelled them to a re-match in the quarter-finals against the first place Brampton 45’s.
Zack Zaduban opened the scoring in the first period assisted by Alvin Trim. Brampton replied with 2 goals but Ajax shut the door with 2 goals in the third period. Matthew Carpe scored with Blair Ballantine assisting. Rielly Flynn scored the winner assisted by Simon Feig. This set up a semi-final game against their new rivals the Waterloo Wolves.
Due to a few injuries Cooper Kauffman was called in for added support and drive. Waterloo was determined and hungry but could not break the Ajax wall. Josh Hall opened the scoring with a crisp shot popping the water bottle with a beautiful pass from Simon Feig. Scott Ryman iced the game with an open net goal. Matt Ferreira as usual was his stellar self in net earning the shut-out and helping Ajax get to the final. Ajax was poised to meet the undefeated Kitchener Rangers.

Rielly Flynn opened the scoring in the second assisted by Matthew Carpe and Cooper Kauffman. Kitchener replied with 2 goals until Cooper Kauffman tied it up assisted by Josh Hall.
