UPDATE - Red (Control) Zone Hockey - 4 Week Plan
Submitted By Carrie Reynolds on Saturday, November 21, 2020
Hello Members of the AMHA,

As you are aware, our ever-changing situation continues to evolve with the most recent announcement from the Province, placing Ajax in a Red Zone.

We agree that there is never a perfect answer that will satisfy all of our members.  What we can communicate is that we have reviewed all provincial and municipal announcements and taken all of the information into account in determining how AMHA will move forward.    We have debated long and hard with varying opinions on potential options moving forward while taking into account the responsible interests of our membership and the financial stability and fiscal responsibilities of the AMHA.

We are confident that the action plan we are implementing as of Monday, November 23rd will allow most of the players the opportunity to remain on the ice.  This is important to us as we have received countless emails from our members communicating how pleased they are with the protocols that the AMHA has put in place to provide our families with some sort of normalcy in their lives during this very difficult time.

What does this mean for the AMHA in light of the recent provincial announcement and local facility rules moving forward?

  • Teams and coaching staff will remain the same
  • Teams will be on the ice for a “training” session once per week (see exceptions below)
  • There will be a total of only 10 participants on the ice which will include a mandatory coach and trainer (8 players and 2 bench staff)
  • Teams with more than eight players will be required to sit-out players on a rotating basis (including goalies)—each team has the option of allowing 9 skaters and have the trainer view from behind the glass area
  • No games or scrimmages are permitted
  • No spectators allowed
  • Only 1 parent/guardian for each player under the age of 18 can enter and stay within the facility while the player is on the ice (no siblings will be allowed)
  • Players, coaches and parents are subjected to our current screening process

Unfortunately, as we looked to accommodate all our members under these new requirements, there are some divisions that we have decided to follow the Provincial Guidelines and suspend their play pending further evolving information and protocols.  The divisions impacted are U18 Black, U18 Red and U21.  We apologize for this difficult decision and with that being said, we are optimistic that this will only be for a short period of time and that they will be back on the ice, making up the missed weekly sessions.

In addition, the Pre-School Development Program (Timbits) will participate on alternating Saturdays.   Parents/guardians will be advised by email as to the Saturday your player/players will be attending.

We want to remind our members of our refund policy and that we will not be considering cancellations or refunds during this time but it will be re-evaluated as we move forward.   As noted above, our plan is to make up the missed ice sessions for all divisions once we receive the green light from the Province.

We are in the process of finalizing next week's schedule and it will be posted on the website by Sunday, November 22, 2020 evening.

We will continue to funnel our communication through the AMHA website, so please stay connected.

Thank you for your support and understanding as we navigate through this very fluid situation.
