Minor Midget A Wins Silver Stick Tournament Regional Qualifier
Congratulations to the Minor Midget A team on winning the Silver Stick Regional Qualifier this past weekend in Cobourg.
The Knights had a very successful weekend of play going 2-0-1 in the round robin portion:
Knights v. Gloucester - T 2-2
Knights v. Castor River - W 5-2
Knights v. Whitby - W 9-1
In the semi-final, the Knights game up against a very fast Oakville team. Led by outstanding goal tending of R. Bannister, the Knights held on to a 3-1 victory to advance to the finals against the Mississippi Thunder Kings (Ottawa Region).
The final was a great battle between two very evenly matched teams. J. Savoie was solid between the pipes and the offence was able to thwart any push from Mississippi. In the end, while shorthanded and Mississippi's net empty, the 6 on 4 didn't matter as the Knights held onto a slim but convincing 4-3 victory to claim the title!
C. Tate led all scorers for the entire tournament with 8 goals and 3 assists. Accompany that with 5 of our players in the top ten of divisional scoring and solid goal tending, the Knights would not be denied this important victory. The team will participate in the International Silver Stick Championship in Newmarket in early January!
Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents on a great weekend.
