Minor Midget A Wins Silver Stick Finals
Congratulations to the Minor Midget A team for winning the Silver Stick Finals in Newmarket.
Entering the tournament on invitation after a heart breaking loss in the Regional Qualifier, the boys knew they had their work cut out for them.
After opening the tournament with a 2-2 tie against Centre Wellington, the boys were perfect in their next three round robin games. They defeated the Texas Jr Stars 3-0, the Delco Phantoms 5-0 and the Mt. Clemons Wolves 7-0 resulting in first place in their group and second overall in the tournament.
The Semi-Finals provided a second chance to play Orillia; the team that defeated them in the Regional Qualifier. This time, the boys left little doubt about the win, convincingly defeating Orillia 6-0.
The finals pitted Ajax against Stratford, the number one seed in the tournament. A quick goal by A. Barnes followed by another by D. Brown on a beautiful pass from C. Walker, gave the boys an immediate boost and they held on for a 2-1 victory.
Over six games, the team won 5 games, tied 1, scored 25 goals for, only 3 against and had 4 shut-outs.
Congratulations to the team, bench staff and parents.
