Minor Bantam AE Wins Oshawa Cup
Congratulations to the Ajax Knights Minor Bantam AE team for their successful championship win in last weekend's Oshawa Cup!
Backed by outstanding goaltending, the Knights were able to post a 3 and 1 record in the round robin portion of the tournament.
The Knights came out a little sluggish in the first game on Friday against a tough Peterborough opponent but were able to squeak out a 3-2 victory. This "poked the bear" and the Knights were able to table a convincing 4-1 victory over the host, Oshawa Minor Generals.
Saturday morning's contest versus the Northumberland Nighthawks gave M. McMaster his first shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory but an administrative error resulted in a 1-0 forfeit, the only loss tabled on the weekend. The Clarington Toros proved to be a valiant opponent on Saturday afternoon with the Knights edging them out, 4-3. After the 3 and 1 record in the round robin, the Knights were poised in first place heading into the playoff rounds.
The semi-final would prove to be a tough, well fought contest versus the host, Generals but V. Nguyen's first shutout of the season and an early second period goal from J. Irving would be all that was needed to take the win and advance to the final.
The Knights entered the final versus the Toros hungry to defend their round robin victory. The Knights got on the board first in the 1st period, but the Toros quickly stormed back to tie up the contest. The second period proved to be the difference maker with the Knights getting two goals for a 3-1 lead heading into the third. Two more goals in the third period locked down the tournament victory with a convincing 5-1 final score!
Congratulations to the coaches, players and parents.
